The Ping! Revolution London is a sociable cycle ride that sets out to explore the city through ping pong.
The First Ride – Saturday 10th August
Ping pong, picnics and pedalling are some of our favourite things. If they’re yours too, then join the first Ping! Revolution on Saturday August 10th from 3pm in Golden Square, Soho. The social ride will meander through the streets of London in search of some of the city’s hidden tables, and will eventually arrive at Hackney City Farm for an evening of pedal-powered ping pong movies courtesy of the Magnificent Revolution.
The films, selected for this launch will commence after sunset, at about 8.30pm, with gates to the farm open from 7pm. If you’re not joining us for the ride, get there early to grab the best place to sit.
There is only a loose route planned in advance, so you, the riders can lead the exploration towards your favourite tables. You should expect a couple of hours in the saddle, and regular stops for games of round-the-table (Berlin-style) ping pong. We’ll have some bats and balls to use, but you should bring your own too, if you can!
The cycle ride is free for everyone to join in, and all Magnificent Revolution films events are run on a PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN policy so that even if you have pennies in your pocket you can still come down! All the proceeds go towards putting on the events and supporting the work of Magnificent Revolution and Hackney City Farm – so it’s worth digging around for a crumpled note if you can.
If you can’t make the whole ride you can track progress by following @Ping_tweets on Twitter. We won’t be going quickly, so you’ll have plenty of time to catch us up.
Remember that the Cycle-In Cinema is an outdoors event, if it looks like it’s going to rain on the night we’ll have to reschedule. We have a license for the whole weekend so hopefully it won’t rain the whole way through. Please check the Ping! London Facebook
feeds for details on the day.
This first Ping! Revolution event is the result of a collaboration between the Magnificent Revolution
and Ping! London
, who want this to be the first of many similar open-source rides in the future. If you want to join an upcoming ride, or plan one of your own, you can do so by joining The Ping Pong Revolution
community page on Facebook.
The Ping Pong Revolution is a people powered community championing the exploration of public space, through ping pong and cycling. It’s inspired by the sociable ping pong culture in Berlin and the cycle-friendly cities in the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Is there really a better way to experience your city?
- Ping Pong
- Britdoc’s award winning film released in 2012
- The Art of Repair – Short films from MadeGood the people behind 100s of bicycle repair videos.
- Short films from Copenhagen’s street ping pong project, Ping Out
- A film about Dienstag Tischtennis, Berlin’s pioneering guerilla ping pong project that inspired the Ping! Revolution.
More short films to be confirmed very soon.
What the Magnificent Revolution say about their Cycle-In Cinema
The CYCLE-IN CINEMA is our summer series of cinema events at Hackney City Farm. Screening a hand-picked selection of films from cult classics to family favourites, we’ve got something for everyone.
Using the bicycle generator system to power a 1kW rig, our screenings are off the grid. We also try to encourage our audience to cycle to the cinema and use their very own bicycles to power the show plus we always serve some lovely local food and we get our drink from one of the local breweries all served in bio-degradable / recycled cups and plates.
Vive la Ping Pong Revolution!
