Maplin Electronics have a bargain offer at the moment, a £20 Jumpstarter, the Nikkai A81JW which is based on a 12V/17AH Sealed lead-acid battery. Its 12volt lamp is flimsy, the cover fell off mine, but I wasn’t planning to use this lamp anyway. The battery is inside a sturdy plastic box, and accessories include a battery voltmeter, a cigarette lighter style socket and a mains charging adaptor.
You’d normally pay at least £30 just for the battery. I plan to fit a main fuse and sub-circuit fuses on the recessed control panel. This “jumpstarter” will make a good medium power supply unit for a bike generator system. But since there is the possibility of shorting the battery by touching the jump leads together, I have removed them.
