Akashi Festival
We were asked to run a small half hour workshop at the Akashi Festival, a multicultural event at the Junction, Cambridge on Saturday.
The event was a fusion of art, music, dance, food and discussion to celebrate and share ideas for challenging climate change, and to celebrate what different cultures and faiths teach on looking after our environment.
We hooked 2 bikes up to a display of light bulbs - energy saving bulbs on one side and regular bulbs on the other side - so people could see for themselves the vast difference in energy consumption, and feel how much effort is needed to produce that power. We also had a small quiz for people afterward to test their knowledge on the power requirements for everyday home appliances.
The event went really well and we were really popular with the attendees, so much so that we ended up running for 5 times longer than we were asked to!
Everyone was really excited by the workshop, and we got lots of people talking about energy efficiency and thinking about their personal usage in their homes through taking part in the quiz.
Result!
